Commonly asked questions

Q. Can you install a pet door into glass?A. Yes, we can install pet doors into glass, but we do not cut holes into existing glass. Instead, our glaziers assess the existing glass and arrange for the appropriate replacement glass panel to be manufactured with the pet door opening incorporated into it. This approach is safer and ensures the glass is suitable for the installation. Q. Why don't you cut a hole in my existing glass? A. We don't cut holes into existing glass because we have seen the serious damage and accidents that can occur when glass is cut or modified incorrectly. In particular, toughened safety glass cannot be cut once it has been toughened. Attempting to cut or drill it can cause the entire pane to shatter. For safety and durability, we replace the appropriate glass rather than attempting to cut an existing pane. Q. Can you cut a pet door into double glazed glass? A. No. We do not cut holes into existing double glazed units. A double glazed unit is manufactured and sealed as a complete unit. Cutting or modifying an existing unit can compromise its construction, performance and safety. If a pet door is required in a double glazed door or window, we can assess the unit and determine the appropriate replacement glass solution. Q. Do you install pet doors into double glazing? A. Yes, we can install a pet door where double glazing is involved. However, the existing double glazed unit cannot simply be cut to accommodate the flap. Our glaziers will assess the existing unit and determine what replacement glass or glazing configuration is required. Q. What happens if I already have toughened glass? A. That's not a problem. Our glazier will assess the existing glass and determine the correct solution. Because toughened glass cannot be cut after manufacture, a replacement pane or unit may be required with the pet door opening manufactured into it from the outset. Q. Why do you use toughened safety glass? A. Toughened safety glass is designed to provide increased safety and strength compared with ordinary annealed glass. The appropriate glass specification will be determined by our glaziers based on the installation requirements. Q. What pet doors do you install? A. We only install Catwalk, Dogwalk and Sureflap microchip pet doors because of their durability and suitability for regular pet use. We have chosen these products because we want the pet door we install to be robust and reliable rather than simply fitting any flap available on the market. Q. Do you install other brands of pet doors? A. Our standard installations use Catwalk, Dogwalk and Sureflap pet doors. This allows us to work with products we know, trust and consider suitable for a durable installation. Ask our team if we can use your supplied door - we will ned specifications to ensure a seamless fit. Q. How do I know which size pet door I need? A. The pet door needs to be large enough for your pet to comfortably pass through while still being appropriate for the installation. We recommend considering your pet's current size, breed and shoulder/width measurements, rather than choosing a flap based solely on weight. If you have a growing puppy, remember that the required size may change as your dog grows. Q. Can you help me choose the right pet door size? A. Yes. We can help you determine which flap is appropriate for your installation. If you're unsure, it's better to discuss the size with us before the glass is ordered. Q. Can you install a pet door into a sliding glass door? A. This depends on the construction of the sliding door and its existing glass. Our glazier can assess the door and determine whether a suitable replacement glass panel or another installation method is possible. Q. Can you install a pet door into a window? A. In many cases, yes. The existing window and glass will need to be assessed first. Where a replacement glass panel is required, the pet door opening is incorporated into the new glass during manufacture. Q. Can you install a pet door into a wooden door? A. No. our glass pet door service is primarily designed around glazing installations. If your door is timber rather than glass, please contact us so we can confirm whether we can assist with your particular door as we can supply you with the door but you may need to engage a builder. Q. Will you remove and dispose of my existing glass? A. Where a replacement glass panel is required, our glaziers can remove the existing panel and install the new one as part of the installation process. It is totally up to you if you would like to keep the glass panel as you do own this.
