If you have full vehicle insurance with any major insurance company; and this includes a windscreen extension (and they mostly do) then the cost of the repair will be FREE to you.
Generally a chip repair takes about 30 minutes, with a full windscreen replacement taking from 45 minutes to 2 hours depending on the type of fitting and vehicle.

Glass Tips & Hints
Cleaning Glass Windows and Doors
Commence cleaning by soaking the glass surfaces with clean water and a soap solution to loosen dirt or debris. Then, using a mild, non-abrasive commercial window washing solution, uniformly apply the solution to the glass surfaces with a non-abrasive applicator and follow with a squeegee to remove all of the cleaning solution from the glass surface.
Ensure that no metal parts of the cleaning equipment touch the glass surface and that no abrasive particles are trapped between the glass and the cleaning materials. All water and cleaning solution residue should be dried from the window gaskets, sealants and frames.
What should I do if my vehicle windscreen gets a chip?
You should get it fixed as soon as possible; try to keep it clean; use a clear sticker to seal the hole this ensures the best possible repair
Car windows covered in Ice?
Dont use hot water to remove it; as this will likely break the window.
Instead use a credit card to scrape the ice off and use COLD water to rinse the remaining amount off
